TEAM USA, 57 Players Qualify for 2010 World Youth Chess Championship

----------------------------------------------------------------

May 26, 2010

(CROSSVILLE, TN) The United States Chess Federation is pleased to announce that the following players have qualified to participate in the 2010 World Youth Chess Championship. The top players by rating in each age category are considered the official representatives by FIDE, the World Chess Federation, but all players compete in the event as part of the US delegation.

Players may qualify to represent the United States by being established as one of the three highest rated candidates by peak post-tournament rating in the previous 12 months ending with events included in the April Rating Supplement. They may also qualify by being within 50 rating points or less from the third qualifying spot. A player may also qualify by personal right by achieving a medal at the World Youth in the previous year or by achieving a Gold Medal at the previous Pan American Youth Festival. Qualifying by personal right from the 2009 World Youth are Samritha Palakollu (Girls Under 10) and Tanuj Vasudeva (Boys Under 10). Both players earned Silver medals at last year's World Youth.

Details on the event have not yet been released by the organizers. Official letters of invitation will be sent to the qualifying players as soon as those details are available. Players and their families should contact Chuck Lovingood, USCF FIDE & Scholastic Associate, for questions related to the tournament.

Congratulations to all of these players who qualified for the 2010 World Youth!
